AUDIO VISUALIZER: ISHO

A real-time audio visualizer giving music its own unique visual identity

CONTEXT —
A collaborative final project for my Intro to Computing for Creative Practice course. Using the programming skills we’ve gained over the semester, we were instructed to build a program in p5.js that emphasized dynamic, computational interactive behavior.

THE CONCEPT

Our final project is an audio visualizer named Isho, derived from the Sino-Japanese word for “impression”. We begin with a flat landscape made up of 88 horizontal lines spanning the canvas. As the music plays, the landscape changes, evolving with the song-of-choice’s duration, peaks, amplitudes. By the end of the song, the music has imprinted the terrain with valleys, dips, and ridges.
